Bali, Indonesia - Money

The currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah. Owing to the never-ending political problems in the country, it is difficult to offer an accurate exchange guide but at time of writing US$1 was around 9,500rp and
£1 was around 16,000rp.

The generally accepted foreign currency around the islands is, naturally the $US. Most large hotels and restaurants will take the almighty Dollar without question.

If you bring travellers cheques, stick with the more recognized brand names, i.e American Express, Thomas Cook etc. In remote areas, banks are scarce so always have a small stash of rupiah.

Credit cards are widely accepted in larger establishments but please note that ATM withdrawals and cash advances can command a high service charge so take out larger amounts. The fee is set however much you take.
